Welcome to the web-site of the Musical Weeks at the Olympic Theatre in Vicenza

Our festival of classical music is held, since more than fifteen years, during the month of June in the wonderful theatre projected by Andrea Palladio in 1580, considered the most ancient covered theatre in the world. The festival is made up of various sections (opera, chamber music and symphonic concerts, conferences and listening guides, films, master-class, special projects). The 2004/2006 editions saw the project Waiting for Amadé on the occasion of the Mozartian centenary, with year 2007 we started with the new three-year project Journey throughout Italy dedicated to the Italian capitals of music, with Rossini's works.

The Musical Weeks at the Olympic Theatre are member of the EFA (European Festival Association), the only festival in Veneto, together with other nine important Italian festivals.

The festival every year brings together in Vicenza some among the best Italian musicians, in a sort of classical music "jam session ". Operas and concerts are recorded and transmitted by Radio Rai Tre, the cultural channel on Italian public radio. We have always been interested in authors and repertoires not much patronized. In year 2006 we executed the first revival in modern times of the Mozartian Magic flute, translated by Giovanni De Gamerra for Prague's theatre in 1794.This edition is now available also on CD. In year 2007 we staged the first Vicenza edition of L'italiana in Algeri (the Italian girl in Algiers), written by Rossini in 1813, immediately after the Venetian début.
